Hole Me Forever
Didn't have enough money to pay at restaurant, will I be in trouble?
I recently went to some fancy vegan restaurant where they didn't state a lot of the prices for "extra toppings" and such. I expected the bill to be 25 dollars but it came out to 41! I only had 38 dollars on me, and told them I'd have to check my car for change....I couldn't find any.
On impulse I drove away as fast as I could. In my rear view mirror I saw the waiter looking at my car and writing down what I believe was my license plate. What can they really do if I shorted them 3 dollars? It's sort of far away for me to drive, should I go back with 3 dollars? I figure in principle it is a big deal because it's stealing, but when it comes to law, is it?
My question doesn't entail your moral standpoint, and I don't care at this point what I "should've done", I'm simply asking what the implications of shafting a restaurant 3 bucks would be if my license was written down.
Also, I'm pretty sure they don't take it out of a waiters pay check, at least not in california. I've had it happen to me working in foods.
